Uses:
Zosert-50 is used in the treatment of several mental health conditions, including major depressive disorder (MDD), obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), panic disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), social anxiety disorder (social phobia), and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD).
It helps restore the balance of serotonin in the brain, improving mood, sleep, appetite, and energy, while reducing feelings of fear, anxiety, unwanted thoughts, and panic attacks.
• Directions for Use:
– Route: Oral
– Frequency: Once daily, preferably at the same time each day
– With or Without Food: Can be taken with or without food
– Initial Dose: Often starts at 25–50 mg/day, increased gradually under physician supervision
– Do not chew or crush. Swallow whole with water.
• Precautions:
– Monitor for worsening depression or suicidal thoughts, especially in adolescents and young adults
– Use with caution in patients with a seizure history
– May trigger manic episodes in bipolar disorder; screen before initiating
– Dose adjustment may be needed in liver impairment; monitor liver enzymes
– May affect blood sugar levels in diabetic patients
– Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding only if clearly needed and prescribed by a doctor
• Contraindications:
– Hypersensitivity to Sertraline or any component of the formulation
– Use with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or within 14 days of stopping MAOIs
– Concurrent use with pimozide
– Severe liver impairment
• Side Effects:
– Common: Nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, insomnia, fatigue, sexual dysfunction
– Rare but serious: Serotonin syndrome (agitation, hallucinations, fever), hyponatremia, seizures, QT prolongation
• Drug Interactions:
– Avoid with other SSRIs or SNRIs (risk of serotonin syndrome)
– Caution with NSAIDs, aspirin, or anticoagulants (bleeding risk)
– Avoid alcohol (CNS depression)
– Risk of interactions with lithium, tramadol, triptans, and St. John’s Wort
• Storage:
– Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place
– Keep out of reach of children
– Protect from moisture and direct light
