Dosage & Administratio
Take Zol 20 Capsule on an empty stomach, at least 1 hour before meals. Swallow the capsule whole; don’t chew or crush. If needed, you can open the capsule and mix the contents with applesauce for immediate consumption.
- Adults: Doses generally range from 10 mg to 60 mg daily, depending on the condition. For specific conditions like H. pylori infection, it’s used in combination therapies. Doses over 80 mg/day are typically divided.
- Children: Dosing varies by weight and age for GERD and erosive oesophagitis.
- Elderly & Renal Impairment: No dose adjustment usually needed.
- Hepatic Impairment: 10-20 mg daily.
- Intravenous (IV) Administration: 40 mg once daily for conditions like GERD or ulcers when oral intake isn’t possible.
Important Considerations
- Contraindications: Don’t use if allergic to omeprazole or its components.
- Precautions: Stomach cancer should be ruled out. Use with caution during pregnancy, lactation, and in children under 1 year. Magnesium levels may require monitoring.
- Interactions: Zol 20 can interact with various medications, including diuretics, warfarin, digoxin, benzodiazepines, clarithromycin, methotrexate, and certain HIV drugs (e.g., rilpivirine, nelfinavir, atazanavir – potentially fatal interactions). Always inform your doctor about all medications you’re taking.
- Side Effects: Common side effects (1-10%) include headache, abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and flatulence. Rare but serious side effects can include liver damage, blood disorders, and severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis).
How it Works (Mechanism of Action)
Omeprazole is a Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI). It works by blocking the H+/K+ ATPase enzyme system in the stomach lining, which is responsible for the final step of acid production. This reduces both basal and stimulated stomach acid secretion.

How Zol 20 Works (Mechanism of Action)
Omeprazole, the active ingredient in Zol 20, is a Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI). It functions by specifically blocking the H+/K+ ATPase enzyme system, which is found on the secretory surface of the gastric parietal cells in your stomach. This enzyme is crucial for the final step in producing stomach acid. By inhibiting this system, omeprazole effectively reduces both basal (normal) and stimulated (e.g., after eating) acid secretion.
