Description

Zaart H is a combination medication used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure). It’s generally prescribed when a single medication isn’t enough to effectively control blood pressure.

It contains two active ingredients:

1. Losartan (usually 50mg): This is an Angiotensin II Receptor Blocker (ARB). Losartan works by blocking the action of a natural substance in your body called angiotensin II, which normally causes blood vessels to narrow. By blocking this, Losartan helps to relax and widen your blood vessels, allowing blood to flow more easily and reducing blood pressure.

2. Hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ) (usually 12.5mg): This is a thiazide diuretic, often called a “water pill.” It helps your body get rid of excess water and salt through increased urine production. This reduces the fluid volume in your body, which also contributes to lowering blood pressure.

Together, these two ingredients work through different mechanisms to provide a more effective blood pressure-lowering effect, thereby reducing the risk of serious complications such as heart attacks, strokes, and kidney problems.

Key points about Zaart H:

• Uses: Primarily for high blood pressure. Also helps reduce the risk of stroke and heart attack, and can manage fluid buildup (edema) due to heart, kidney, or liver diseases.
• Dosage and Administration: Typically taken orally once daily, with or without food. It’s often recommended to take it in the morning to avoid frequent urination at night. Always follow your doctor’s instructions.
• Do not stop suddenly: Abruptly stopping this medication can cause a dangerous increase in blood pressure.
• Common Side Effects: Dizziness (especially when standing up), headache, fatigue, nausea, diarrhea, and decreased blood pressure. Increased urination is an expected effect due to the diuretic.
• Serious Side Effects: Seek immediate medical attention for severe allergic reactions (swelling of face, lips, tongue), severe dizziness or fainting, signs of kidney or liver problems (yellowing skin/eyes, dark urine), or persistent, severe diarrhea.
• Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Unsafe during pregnancy as it can harm the developing baby. Generally not recommended during breastfeeding. Always consult your doctor.
• Alcohol: Unsafe to consume alcohol with Zaart H as it can enhance dizziness and drowsiness.
• Kidney and Liver Issues: Use with caution and potential dose adjustments in patients with kidney or liver disease. Not recommended for severe kidney or liver disease.
• Potassium Levels: Can increase blood potassium levels. Avoid potassium supplements or potassium-rich foods unless advised by your doctor.
• Driving/Operating Machinery: May cause dizziness or affect vision. Exercise caution.
