What is Synodot Tablet Used For?

Synodot Tablet is an antispasmodic medication. It’s prescribed to relieve pain and discomfort caused by muscle spasms in various conditions, including:

  • Gastrointestinal tract spasms (stomach or intestinal cramps)
  • Symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
  • Dysmenorrhea (painful menstrual periods)
  • Pain from Biliary colics (gallstones)
  • Pain from Renal colics (kidney stones)

How Does Synodot Work?

The active ingredient, Drotaverine, works directly on the smooth muscles found in organs like the intestines, bile ducts, and urinary tract. It relaxes these muscles by inhibiting a specific enzyme, which helps to quickly ease spasms and the associated pain.

Dosage Information

Adult Dose (Oral):

  • As an antispasmodic: Take 1 to 2 tablets, 3 times daily.

Adult Dose (Injection – if applicable, given by a healthcare professional):

  • As an antispasmodic: 1 to 2 ampoules (40-80mg), administered intramuscularly or subcutaneously, 1-3 times daily.
  • For acute stone colics: 1 or 2 ampoules (40-80mg) by slow intravenous injection.

Child Dose (Oral):

  • Children (over 6 years): 1/2 to 1 tablet (20-40mg), 1-2 times daily.
  • Children (1-6 years): 1/4 to 1/2 tablet (10-20mg), 1-2 times daily.

How to Take Synodot

You can take Synodot Tablet with or without food.

Important Considerations & Precautions

Do NOT use Synodot if you have:

  • Severe kidney dysfunction
  • Severe liver dysfunction
  • Severe heart dysfunction
  • Porphyria (a rare genetic blood disorder)

Use with caution if you have:

  • Any existing kidney, liver, or heart problems.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, consult your doctor before use.

Drug Interactions:

  • Synodot may reduce the effectiveness of levodopa (a medication for Parkinson’s disease).
  • Taking it with analgesics (painkillers), antimuscarinics, or benzodiazepines might have an increased beneficial effect, but this should be managed by your doctor.

Side effects of Drotaverine Hydrochloride are generally mild and may include:

  • Vertigo (dizziness or spinning sensation)
