How It Works

Bromocriptine is a dopamine D2 and D3-agonist. This means it works by activating specific dopamine receptors in your brain (in the tuberoinfundibular and nigrostriatal pathways). By doing this, it helps to:

  • Inhibit the secretion of prolactin from the anterior pituitary gland, which is why it’s used for high prolactin levels and related disorders.
  • Address symptoms in Parkinson’s disease by mimicking the effects of dopamine, which is deficient in this condition.
