What’s it Used For?
Rabenorm Tablet is prescribed for various conditions related to excess stomach acid, including:
- Peptic Ulcer Disease: This includes ulcers in the stomach (gastric ulcer) and the first part of the small intestine (duodenal ulcer).
- H. pylori Infection: It’s often used as part of a multi-drug regimen to eradicate Helicobacter pylori, a bacterium that can cause ulcers.
- Gastro-Oesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD): A common condition where stomach acid flows back into the esophagus, causing heartburn and irritation. This also includes Erosive Oesophagitis, a more severe form of GERD where the esophageal lining is damaged.
- Paediatric GERD: Specifically for children over 12 years old.
- Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome: A rare condition characterized by the overproduction of stomach acid due to a tumor.

Do Not Use If:
- You have a known hypersensitivity or allergic reaction to Rabeprazole, other PPIs, or any ingredients in Rabenorm Tablet.
Precautions:
- Gastric Malignancy: Before starting Rabenorm, your doctor should rule out the presence of stomach cancer, as Rabeprazole can mask its symptoms.
- Severe Hepatic Impairment: Use with caution in patients with severe liver problems.
- Pregnancy and Lactation: If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, discuss with your doctor. It’s unknown if Rabeprazole is distributed into breast milk, so caution is advised.
- Monitoring Magnesium Levels: Your doctor may monitor your magnesium levels before starting treatment and periodically during prolonged use, as Rabeprazole can sometimes cause low magnesium (hypomagnesemia).
Potential Side Effects:
While generally well-tolerated, some people may experience side effects. Common ones (occurring in 1-10% of users) include:
- Headache
- Diarrhea
- Abdominal pain
- Flatulence
- Constipation
- Pain
- Pharyngitis
Less common (occurring in less than 1% of users) but more severe side effects can include agitation, anemia, angioedema (swelling under the skin), bone fractures related to osteoporosis (with prolonged use), hypomagnesemia, and severe skin reactions like Stevens-Johnson syndrome.
