Description
ONCOTREX-LONG TAB (Methotrexate, likely sustained-release) is an antimetabolite used to treat cancers like leukemia, lymphoma, and breast cancer, as well as autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis. It inhibits folate metabolism, slowing cancer cell growth and suppressing immune overactivity. Suitable for adults and children (as prescribed), it is taken orally, typically once weekly, with strict adherence to dosing schedules. It reduces joint pain in arthritis and skin lesions in psoriasis while controlling cancer progression. Common side effects include nausea, fatigue, and mouth sores, while serious risks like liver toxicity, bone marrow suppression, or lung damage require regular monitoring. It is contraindicated in pregnancy, severe liver/kidney disease, or immunodeficiency. Use effective contraception, as it causes birth defects. Consult a doctor for use in breastfeeding or with alcohol, which increases liver risks.
