OCID 20MG CAP

Uses:
- Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) – chronic acid reflux

- Zollinger-Ellison syndrome – a rare condition with excess stomach acid
- Helicobacter pylori eradication (in combination with antibiotics)
- Prevention of NSAID-associated gastric ulcers
Mechanism of Action:
Omeprazole works by irreversibly inhibiting the H+/K+ ATPase enzyme (proton pump) in the parietal cells of the stomach lining. This enzyme is responsible for the final step in the secretion of gastric acid, making omeprazole very effective in reducing acid levels.
Dosage:
- Typically 20 mg once daily before a meal, preferably in the morning
- Duration of therapy depends on the condition (e.g., 4–8 weeks for ulcers, long-term for GERD)
Side Effects:
Common:
- Headache

- Diarrhea or constipation
- Flatulence
Rare but serious:
