Uses:
Mirnite 30mg is primarily prescribed for the treatment of:
- Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)
- Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) (off-label)
- Insomnia associated with depression
- Sometimes used off-label for appetite stimulation, especially in elderly or cancer patients
How It Works:
Mirtazapine enhances noradrenergic and serotonergic neurotransmission in the brain by blocking specific receptors (α2-adrenergic and certain serotonin receptors like 5-HT2 and 5-HT3). This increases the levels of norepinephrine and serotonin, which helps relieve symptoms of depression and improve mood and sleep.
Dosage:

- May be increased to 30–45 mg based on clinical response and patient tolerance
- Best taken at bedtime due to its sedative effects

- Weight gain
- Dry mouth

- Use cautiously in individuals with liver or kidney impairment, seizure disorders, or bipolar disorder
- Monitor for worsening depression or suicidal thoughts, especially during the first few weeks of treatment
- Do not combine with MAO inhibitors or other serotonergic drugs unless under strict medical supervision
Drug Interactions:
