Indications: What is Infexim D-SY used for?
Infexim D-SY is used to treat a variety of bacterial infections, including:
- Respiratory Tract Infections: Pneumonia, Pharyngitis, Sinusitis, Otitis media, Tonsillitis, Acute Bronchitis, and Acute Exacerbations of Chronic Bronchitis.
- Other Susceptible Infections: Typhoid fever, Soft tissue infections, and Gonococcal urethritis.
Dosage Information
Adult Dose:
- Acute Bronchitis & Acute Exacerbations of Chronic Bronchitis, Otitis Media, Pharyngitis/Tonsillitis, Uncomplicated Urinary Tract Infections: 200 mg or 400 mg daily, taken as a single dose or divided into two doses.
- Gonorrhea: A single dose of 400 mg.
- Typhoid Fever: 20 mg/kg body weight daily, divided into two doses. The usual treatment duration is 7 days, but it may be extended up to 14 days depending on the severity of the infection.
Child Dose (Oral):
- General Dosing (for children weighing <50 kg): 8 mg/kg/day, given every 12–24 hours.
- Convalescent Oral Therapy for Serious Infections: Up to 20 mg/kg/day.
Specific Dosing for Powder for Suspension & DS Powder for Suspension:
- Children above 6 months: 8 mg/kg daily in 1-2 divided doses.
- 6 months – 1 year: 75 mg daily.
- 1 – 4 years: 100 mg daily.
- 5 – 10 years: 200 mg daily.
Typhoid Fever (Child Dose):
- 15-20 mg/kg/day orally, divided every 12 hours for 7-14 days. Do not exceed 400 mg/day.
- Note: Safety and efficacy have not been established for children under 6 months of age.
Renal Dose:
- Renal Impairment: Dose reduction is necessary.
- Creatinine Clearance (CrCl) <20 ml/min: Maximum dose is 200 mg daily.
Administration
Infexim D-SY can be taken with or without food. Taking it with food or milk may help reduce gastrointestinal discomfort.
Contraindications
Do not use Infexim D-SY if you have a known hypersensitivity to cephalosporin antibiotics.
