  • Children (6-12 years, Oral): The recommended dose is 10 mg, three times daily, for gastrointestinal or genitourinary spasms.

When NOT to Take Hyofast:

Do not use Hyofast if you have:

  • Narrow-angle glaucoma
  • Acute hemorrhage
  • Paralytic ileus
  • Tachycardia (fast heart rate) due to cardiac insufficiency
  • Myasthenia gravis (a muscle weakness disorder)

Important Precautions:

Exercise caution and consult your doctor if you have:

  • Liver or kidney disease
  • Pyloric stenosis (narrowing of the stomach’s outlet)
  • Urinary retention or prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate)
  • Psychosis or seizure disorders
  • Ulcerative colitis
  • Coronary artery disease, tachyarrhythmias, heart failure, or hypertension
  • Elderly patients, children, pregnant, and lactating individuals should use this medication with care.

Possible Interactions with Other Medications:

  • Taking Hyofast with alcohol or other CNS depressants can lead to additive sedative effects.
  • Its effects may be reduced if taken with acetylcholinesterase inhibitors (like donepezil, galantamine, rivastigmine, tacrine).
  • Potentially Fatal: The effects can be significantly potentiated by other anticholinergic drugs and tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs).

Potential Side Effects:

Common side effects include flushing, postural hypotension (dizziness upon standing), tachycardia (fast heart rate). Rarely, psychotic reactions may occur. Other side effects can include dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue, headache, memory loss, dry skin, rash, increased sensitivity to light, bloating, constipation, dry throat, difficulty swallowing, nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, painful urination, urinary retention, tremor, and weakness. Eye-related side effects include impaired accommodation, blurred vision, cycloplegia, dryness, narrow-angle glaucoma, increased intraocular pain, itching, photophobia, and pupil dilation. You might also experience a dry nose, decreased sweating, and heat intolerance.

Potentially Fatal Side Effects: These can include CNS depression, coma, and circulatory and respiratory failure.

How it Works:

Hyoscine Butylbromide works by competitively blocking muscarinic receptors in the body. This action has effects both centrally and peripherally, leading to the relaxation of smooth muscle and a reduction in gastric and intestinal motility (movement).
