Description

Halocort Cream 15Gm is a topical corticosteroid cream containing Halobetasol Propionate 0.05% w/w. It is a super-high potency steroid used for external application.

Uses: Halocort Cream is primarily used for the treatment of various inflammatory and itchy skin conditions that are responsive to corticosteroids. This includes:

• Psoriasis: A chronic skin condition characterized by red, itchy, scaly patches.
• Eczema (Dermatitis): Skin inflammation that can cause itching, redness, and swelling.
• Other corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses: Skin disorders that show improvement with steroid treatment.

It works by blocking the production of certain chemical messengers in the skin (like prostaglandins) that cause inflammation, redness, and itching, thus reducing swelling and discomfort.

How to Use:

• It is for external use only.
• Apply a thin layer to the affected skin area once or twice daily, or as advised by your doctor.
• Gently rub it in until fully absorbed.
• Wash your hands thoroughly before and after application, unless your hands are the area being treated.
• Do not use it for more than two consecutive weeks, and the total dosage should not exceed 50g/week, due to the potential for systemic absorption and side effects.
• Do not cover the treated area with airtight dressings (like bandages) unless specifically directed by a doctor, as this can increase the risk of side effects.
• If your condition does not improve within 2 weeks, consult your doctor.

Side Effects: Common side effects include:

• Application site reactions such as burning, stinging, itching, dryness, redness, or irritation.
• Thinning of the skin (skin atrophy)
• Stretch marks
• Changes in skin color (hypopigmentation)
• Acne-like eruptions
• Inflamed hair follicles (folliculitis)
• Excessive hair growth (hypertrichosis)
• Headache

More severe, but less common, side effects can include:

• Systemic absorption leading to reversible hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis suppression, which can manifest as Cushing’s syndrome, high blood sugar (hyperglycemia), and glucose in urine (glucosuria).
• Allergic contact dermatitis
• Secondary infections

Precautions and Warnings:

• Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Use with caution and only if clearly advised by your doctor, as the effects on pregnancy and presence in breast milk are not fully established.
• Children: Not recommended for use in children under 12 years of age, as safety and effectiveness have not been established.
• Do not use on: Face, groin, armpits (axillae), rosacea, or perioral dermatitis, unless specifically instructed by your doctor, as these areas are more sensitive and prone to side effects.
• Inform your doctor if you have liver disease, diabetes, cataracts, glaucoma, or Cushing’s syndrome.
• If irritation or an infection develops, discontinue use and consult your doctor.
