Fuskin
Fuskin Ointment, manufactured by Biogain Remedies Pvt. Ltd., contains Sodium Fusidate 2% w/w for topical application. It comes in a 10gm pack and is available in Nepal. A 20mg cream (also Fuskin) is also available. This ointment is used to treat various bacterial skin infections.
What is Fuskin used for?
Fuskin Ointment is indicated for the treatment of skin infections caused by bacteria sensitive to Fusidic acid, including Staphylococci, Streptococci, Corynebacterium minutissimum, and other Fusidate sensitive organisms. The most important indications include:
- Impetigo
- Boils
- Abscesses
- Varicose ulcers
- Skin grafts (infected)
- Hidradenitis
- Infected wounds
- Sycosis barbae
- Paronychia
- Folliculitis
- Carbuncles
- Erythrasma
Description
Do NOT use Fuskin if you have:
- Known hypersensitivity (allergy) to Fusidic acid.
- Severe hepatic (liver) failure.
Precautions:
- Prolonged treatment should be avoided.
- Use with caution in patients with liver impairment.
- Pregnancy: Use with caution during pregnancy.
- Eye Region: Caution should be observed when applying Fusidate Ointment near the eye region, as this preparation may cause irritation if it gets into the eye.
Drug Interactions:
- May have a synergistic action (enhanced effect) with antistaphylococcal penicillin.
- May have antagonism (reduced effect) with ciprofloxacin.
Possible Side Effects
Fuskin Ointment is generally well-tolerated, with an extremely low frequency of hypersensitivity reactions. Possible side effects include:
- Rashes
- Irritation
How does Fuskin work?
Fusidic acid, the active ingredient in Fuskin, exerts its antibacterial action by disrupting the translocation of peptide subunits and elongating the peptide chain of susceptible bacteria. This process inhibits bacterial protein synthesis, thereby stopping bacterial growth and reproduction.
