Fucitop
Fucitop Ointment, manufactured by G.D. Laboratories Pvt. Ltd., contains Sodium Fusidate 2% for topical application. This ointment is available in Nepal and is used to treat various skin infections.
What is Fucitop used for?
Fucitop Ointment is indicated for the treatment of skin infections caused by bacteria sensitive to Fusidic acid, including Staphylococci, Streptococci, Corynebacterium minutissimum, and other sensitive organisms. The most important indications include:
- Impetigo
- Boils
- Abscesses
- Varicose ulcers
- Skin grafts (infected)
- Hidradenitis
- Infected wounds
- Sycosis barbae
- Paronychia
- Folliculitis
- Carbuncles
Description
Do NOT use Fucitop if you have:
- Known hypersensitivity (allergy) to Fusidic acid.
- Severe hepatic (liver) failure.
Precautions:
- Prolonged treatment should be avoided.
- Use with caution in patients with liver impairment.
- Pregnancy: Use with caution during pregnancy.
- Eye Region: Caution should be observed when applying Fucitop Ointment near the eye region, as it may cause irritation if it gets into the eye.
Drug Interactions:
- May have a synergistic action (enhanced effect) with antistaphylococcal penicillin.
- May have antagonism (reduced effect) with ciprofloxacin.
Possible Side Effects
Fucitop Ointment is generally well-tolerated, with an extremely low frequency of hypersensitivity reactions. Possible side effects include:
- Rashes
- Irritation
How does Fucitop work?
Fusidic acid, the active ingredient in Fucitop, exerts its antibacterial action by disrupting the translocation of peptide subunits and elongating the peptide chain of susceptible bacteria. This process inhibits bacterial protein synthesis, thereby stopping bacterial growth and reproduction.
