Description
Flurium 10mg Tablet is a prescription medication containing Flunarizine (10mg), which is a calcium channel blocker.
It is primarily used for the prevention of migraine headaches, especially classic (with aura) or common (without aura) migraines. It works by preventing the excessive influx of calcium into brain cells and blood vessels, which helps stabilize nerve activity and prevent the abnormal widening of blood vessels associated with migraines.
Beyond migraine prevention, Flurium 10mg can also be used for:
- Symptomatic treatment of vestibular vertigo (dizziness due to inner ear issues).
- Peripheral vascular disease (PVD).
- Motion sickness.
- As an add-on therapy for refractory epilepsy (seizures resistant to other treatments).
Key things to know:
- Preventive, not acute: It’s taken regularly to reduce the frequency and severity of migraines; it does not stop a migraine attack once it has started.
- Drowsiness: A common side effect is sleepiness or drowsiness, so caution is advised when driving or operating machinery.
- Weight gain: Increased appetite and weight gain are also possible side effects.
- Prescription only: A doctor’s prescription is required.
- Gradual effects: Full benefits for migraine prevention may take several weeks to months to become apparent.
- Avoid sudden discontinuation: Do not stop taking it suddenly without consulting your doctor.
