Description
ENVAS-H is a combination medication primarily used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension).
It contains two active ingredients:
- Enalapril: This is an ACE inhibitor. It works by relaxing and widening blood vessels, making it easier for blood to flow through and reducing the workload on the heart.
- Hydrochlorothiazide: This is a thiazide diuretic (often called a “water pill”). It works by increasing the amount of salt and water your body eliminates through urine, which helps to reduce fluid volume and lower blood pressure.
How it works together: By combining an ACE inhibitor and a diuretic, ENVAS-H provides a more comprehensive approach to blood pressure control, especially when a single medication isn’t sufficient. The two ingredients work synergistically to:
- Relax blood vessels.
- Reduce excess fluid in the body.
- Ultimately lower blood pressure.
This helps to reduce the risk of serious complications associated with high blood pressure, such as heart attack, stroke, and kidney problems.
Important Considerations:
- Prescription only: ENVAS-H is a prescription medication.
- Dosage: It’s typically taken once daily, often in the morning, to minimize nighttime urination.
- Do not stop suddenly: Abruptly stopping this medication can cause a sudden increase in blood pressure.
- Side effects: Common side effects can include dizziness, headache, cough (a common side effect of ACE inhibitors), fatigue, nausea, taste changes, and electrolyte imbalances. Your doctor will likely monitor your kidney function and electrolyte levels.
- Pregnancy: It is generally not recommended during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimeters, due to potential harm to the developing baby.
- Alcohol: Alcohol consumption should be avoided or limited as it can increase the blood pressure-lowering effect and cause increased drowsiness.
