This medication is an effective antispasmodic, meaning it helps relieve pain caused by involuntary contractions (spasms) of smooth muscles in your body. It’s available in Nepal for 6.00 NPR per tablet.
How does it work?
Drotaverine Hydrochloride works directly on the smooth muscles, which are found in organs like your stomach, intestines, and urinary tract. It does this by inhibiting an enzyme called phosphodiesterase-IV (PDE4). By blocking this enzyme, it increases the levels of cyclic AMP (cAMP) inside the muscle cells. This increase in cAMP leads to the relaxation of the smooth muscles, thereby alleviating the spasms and the pain they cause.
Dosage Information:

- Adults (Oral): For antispasmodic effect, the typical adult dose is 1 to 2 tablets (80mg to 160mg), taken 3 times daily.
- Children (Oral):
- Over 6 years: 1/2 to 1 tablet (40mg), 1-2 times daily.
- 1-6 years: 1/4 to 1/2 tablet (20mg), 1-2 times daily.
- Administration: Dotav 80 Tablet can be taken with or without food.
