Description

Drotaverine Hydrochloride works by directly relaxing smooth muscles. It does this by inhibiting a specific enzyme called phosphodiesterase-IV (PDE4) within the muscle cells. This action increases levels of a chemical called cyclic AMP, which in turn leads to smooth muscle relaxation, effectively relieving spasms and the associated pain. Its direct action means it can provide rapid relief without significant anticholinergic side effects often seen with older antispasmodics.
