Description

Cloben-G 15 gm is a widely used topical medication that combines a corticosteroid, an antifungal, and an antibiotic, making it effective for treating various mixed skin infections and inflammatory skin conditions.

Active Ingredients: Cloben-G Cream typically contains a combination of three active ingredients:

  • Beclomethasone Dipropionate (0.025% w/w): This is a corticosteroid that reduces inflammation, redness, swelling, and itching by suppressing the body’s immune response.
  • Clotrimazole (1% w/w): An antifungal agent that works by inhibiting the growth of various fungi by damaging their cell membranes.
  • Neomycin (0.5% w/w): An antibiotic that prevents the growth of bacteria by interfering with their protein synthesis.

How it Works: The combination of these three ingredients allows Cloben-G to address multiple aspects of skin conditions:

  • Beclomethasone provides rapid relief from inflammation and itching.
  • Clotrimazole targets fungal infections.
  • Neomycin combats bacterial infections.

This comprehensive action makes it suitable for conditions where both inflammation and microbial infections (bacterial and/or fungal) are present.

Uses and Benefits: Cloben-G 15 gm is commonly prescribed for:

  • Fungal and bacterial skin infections: Including ringworm, athlete’s foot, jock itch, and other superficial skin infections.
  • Inflammatory skin conditions: Such as eczema, dermatitis (due to allergies or irritants), and psoriasis, especially when these conditions are complicated by secondary bacterial or fungal infections.
  • Relief of symptoms: It helps alleviate associated symptoms like itching, redness, swelling, irritation, and rashes.
  • Insect bites and stings: To reduce inflammation and prevent secondary infection.

Directions for Use:

  • Cloben-G Ointment is for external use only.
  • Clean and dry the affected skin area thoroughly before application.
  • Apply a thin layer of the cream to the affected area, usually 2 to 3 times a day, or as directed by your doctor.
  • Gently rub it into the skin until it disappears.
  • Wash your hands before and after applying the ointment, unless your hands are the area being treated.
  • Do not cover the treated area with airtight dressings (like bandages or plasters) unless specifically advised by your doctor, as this can increase systemic absorption of the steroid.
  • Use the medication for the full prescribed duration, even if symptoms improve, to prevent recurrence and ensure complete eradication of the infection.
  • Do not use for more than 4 weeks without consulting your doctor.

Side Effects: Common side effects are usually mild and may include:

  • Application site reactions (e.g., mild burning sensation, stinging, itching, redness, irritation, dryness).
  • Skin thinning (with prolonged use, especially due to the corticosteroid).
  • Changes in skin color (hypopigmentation).
  • Stretch marks (striae), particularly with prolonged use on sensitive areas.
  • Folliculitis (inflammation of hair follicles).

Precautions and Warnings:

  • Prescription Required: Cloben-G is a prescription-only medication.
  • Allergies: Do not use if you are allergic to Beclomethasone, Clotrimazole, Neomycin, or any other ingredients.
  • Avoid certain conditions: Do not use on severe redness and warmth (rosacea), perioral dermatitis (rash around the mouth), itching of the anus or genital areas, viral infections (e.g., cold sores, chickenpox, herpes), skin blisters, sores caused by infections, or ulcers.
  • Avoid contact with eyes, nose, mouth: If accidental contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with water.
  • Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding only if clearly prescribed by your doctor, and avoid large areas or prolonged use. If breastfeeding, avoid applying to the breast area.
  • Children: Use in children should be under strict medical supervision and for short durations, as children are more susceptible to systemic absorption of corticosteroids.
  • Prolonged Use: Avoid prolonged use, especially on the face or large body areas, as it can lead to skin thinning, adrenal suppression, and other systemic side effects due to corticosteroid absorption.
  • Other infections: If a new infection develops during treatment, consult your doctor.
