Clinbact Plus Gel (Adapalene + Clindamycin Topical)
Clinbact Plus Gel is a topical medication containing 0.1% Adapalene and 1% Clindamycin. It’s manufactured by Asian Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd. and costs 145.00 NPR.
What It’s Used For
Clinbact Plus Gel is used to treat mild to moderate inflammatory and non-inflammatory acne vulgaris. It’s especially effective for acne with blackheads (comedones), small red bumps (papules), and pus-filled bumps (pustules). It can be used alone or with other acne treatments.
How to Use It
- Adults: Apply a thin layer of the gel to the affected skin area once daily in the evening, right before bed.
- Children (under 12): The safety and effectiveness of this gel haven’t been established for children under 12 years old.
Application Steps:
- Cleanse your skin with a mild or soap-free cleanser.
- Rinse your skin with water.
- Using clean fingers, apply a small amount of gel and gently rub it into the skin.
- Use just enough to lightly cover the entire affected area.
Important Considerations
- Do not use if you are allergic to clindamycin, lincomycin, or adapalene. Also, avoid use if you have a history of regional enteritis, ulcerative colitis, or antibiotic-associated colitis.
- Precautions:
- Even though it’s a topical gel, clindamycin can be absorbed into the body. There have been rare reports of diarrhea, bloody diarrhea, and colitis (including a serious condition called pseudomembranous colitis) with topical clindamycin, similar to what’s seen with oral or injected forms. This can even happen weeks after stopping treatment.
- Adapalene should not be applied to cut, scraped, sunburned, or eczematous skin.
- Avoid contact with your eyes, mouth, nostrils, and other sensitive body areas. If accidental contact occurs, rinse immediately with warm water.
- Avoid prolonged exposure to strong sunlight and artificial UV light (like tanning beds). It’s highly recommended to use sunscreen and wear protective clothing over treated areas.
- Pregnancy & Lactation: It’s unknown if adapalene or clindamycin topical is excreted in breast milk. Use with caution and consult your doctor if you are breastfeeding.
Drug Interactions:
- Clindamycin has properties that can enhance the effects of other neuromuscular blocking agents (medications used during surgery or to relax muscles). Use with caution if you are on such medications.
- Adapalene should not be used at the same time as other retinoids or similar acne medications applied to the skin, as it could increase irritation.
Side Effects: Most side effects occur at the application site:
- Common (up to 1 in 10 people): Dry skin, skin irritation, burning sensation, redness (erythema), and peeling.
- Uncommon (up to 1 in 100 people): Local skin reactions (contact dermatitis), skin discomfort, sunburn, itching, increased peeling (exfoliation), and flare-ups of acne.
- Systemic Effects (Rare): Although rare with topical use, some patients have reported diarrhea (including bloody diarrhea), colitis (including pseudomembranous colitis), abdominal pain, gastrointestinal upset, and gram-negative folliculitis (a type of skin infection).
How It Works:
- Clindamycin is an antibiotic that stops bacteria from growing by blocking their protein production.
- Adapalene is a retinoid-like compound that helps normalize skin cell growth in hair follicles, which reduces the formation of acne.
