Description

Candid V Gel is a common antifungal medication primarily used to treat fungal vaginal infections, also known as vaginal thrush or candidiasis.

Active Ingredient: The main active ingredient in Candid V Gel is Clotrimazole (typically 2% w/w). Clotrimazole belongs to a class of antifungal medications called azoles.

How it works: Clotrimazole works by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol, a crucial component of the fungal cell membrane. This disruption leads to the formation of holes in the fungal cell membrane, causing the cell’s contents to leak out and ultimately killing the fungus. This action helps to relieve symptoms and clear the infection.

Uses and Benefits: Candid V Gel is primarily used for:

  • Treatment of vaginal fungal infections (vaginal thrush/candidiasis): It effectively targets the yeast (Candida species) responsible for these infections.
  • Relief from symptoms: It helps alleviate the associated symptoms such as vaginal burning, itching, irritation, and abnormal discharge.
  • Restoration of vaginal pH balance: It can contribute to restoring the natural pH balance of the vaginal flora, promoting a healthy environment and potentially reducing the risk of future infections.
  • Prevention of secondary infections: By treating the primary yeast infection, it can help prevent other infections that might arise from the initial condition.
  • Treatment of external irritation: It can relieve irritation of the vulva (vulvitis) caused by vaginal thrush. It can also be applied to the sexual partner’s penis to prevent re-infection.

Directions for Use:

  • Candid V Gel is for vaginal use only. Do not swallow.
  • It is typically applied once daily, often before bedtime, or as advised by your doctor.
  • Clean and dry the vaginal area before application.
  • Use a clean hand or the applicator provided to gently apply the advised amount to the affected area.
  • Wash your hands before and after application.
  • Do not use it during your menstrual period; wait until your period is over.
  • Continue the full course of treatment even if symptoms improve, to prevent the infection from returning.

Side Effects: Common side effects are usually mild and may include:

  • Application site reactions (itching, burning sensation, irritation, redness)
  • Abdominal pain
  • Vulvovaginal pain
  • Nausea
  • Blisters
  • Skin peeling
  • Swelling

These side effects often subside without medical intervention. If they persist or worsen, consult your doctor.

Precautions and Warnings:

  • Consult a doctor before use if:
    • This is your first time experiencing symptoms of vaginal candidiasis.
    • You have more than two infections in the last six months.
    • You have a history of sexually transmitted diseases or exposure to a partner with STDs.
    • You are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding.
    • You are under 16 or over 60 years of age.
    • You have a known hypersensitivity to imidazoles or other vaginal antifungal products.
  • Do not use Candid V Gel if you have any of the following symptoms, and seek medical advice immediately:
    • Irregular vaginal bleeding
    • Abnormal vaginal bleeding or a blood-stained discharge
    • Vulval or vaginal ulcers, blisters, or sores
    • Lower abdominal pain or dysuria (painful urination)
    • Any adverse events such as severe redness, irritation, or swelling associated with the treatment.
    • Fever or chills
    • Nausea or vomiting
    • Diarrhea
    • Foul-smelling vaginal discharge
  • Avoid getting it in the eyes, nose, or mouth. If accidental exposure occurs, rinse immediately with plenty of water.
  • During treatment, vaginal medications may leak out; consider using a mini-pad or sanitary napkin to prevent staining clothes.
  • Barrier contraceptives (condoms, diaphragms) may be damaged by Candid V Gel, potentially reducing their effectiveness in preventing pregnancy and STDs.

Price in Nepal: The price of Candid V Gel (typically 30gm) in Nepal generally ranges from around NPR 146 to NPR 213. Prices may vary depending on the pharmacy and specific size.
