Mechanism of Action
Povidone-iodine is an iodophore that possesses powerful broad-spectrum germicidal activity. It is effective against a wide range of bacteria, viruses, fungi, protozoa, and spores. Its microbicidal action occurs through the oxidation of cell constituents and the iodination and inactivation of proteins, leading to the destruction of microorganisms.
