Description
Uses
Atortin 10 is prescribed for:
- High cholesterol (hypercholesterolemia)
- High triglycerides (hypertriglyceridemia)
- Reducing the risk of heart attacks and strokes
It works by inhibiting the enzyme HMG-CoA reductase, which plays a central role in cholesterol production in the liver. This leads to a decrease in “bad” LDL cholesterol and triglycerides while increasing “good” HDL cholesterol.
Common Side Effects
- Nausea
- Indigestion
- Constipation
- Headache
- Muscle pain or weakness
- Elevated blood sugar levels
Most side effects are mild and may subside over time. However, if you experience persistent symptoms or signs of liver issues (e.g., yellowing of the skin or eyes), consult your doctor promptly.
Precautions
- Liver Disease: Use with caution; not recommended for those with active liver disease.
- Pregnancy & Breastfeeding: Not safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
- Diabetes: May slightly increase blood sugar levels; monitor glucose levels regularly.
