Apidra works by mimicking the natural insulin produced by the body, facilitating the uptake of glucose from the bloodstream into cells (like muscle and fat cells) for energy, and inhibiting the liver’s production of glucose. Its fast-acting nature means it typically begins to work within 10-20 minutes after injection, with its peak effect occurring around 1 hour, and its effects lasting for approximately 2 to 4 hours. This quick onset and relatively short duration make it ideal for controlling post-meal blood sugar spikes.
