What it’s used for:

AMLOPRESS-10MG is primarily used to treat:

• Hypertension (High Blood Pressure): It works by relaxing blood vessels, which allows blood to flow more easily throughout the body, thereby lowering blood pressure. This reduces the risk of serious complications like heart attacks, strokes, and kidney problems.
• Angina (Heart-Related Chest Pain): This includes chronic stable angina and vasospastic (Prinzmetal’s or variant) angina. Amlodipine helps by increasing blood flow and oxygen supply to the heart muscle, reducing the frequency and severity of angina attacks. It’s not for immediate relief of acute angina attacks.
• Coronary Artery Disease (CAD): It can be used to manage CAD by reducing the workload on the heart and improving blood flow.

How it works:

Amlodipine, as a calcium channel blocker, inhibits the movement of calcium ions into the smooth muscle cells of the blood vessels and, to a lesser extent, into the heart muscle cells. This action leads to:

• Vasodilation: Relaxation and widening of blood vessels, which reduces the resistance to blood flow.
• Reduced Cardiac Workload: By making it easier for blood to flow, the heart doesn’t have to pump as hard, which reduces its oxygen demand.

Dosage and Administration:

AMLOPRESS-10MG is typically taken orally once daily, with or without food. It’s generally advised to take it at the same time each day to maintain a consistent level in your body. Do not stop taking this medication suddenly without consulting your doctor, as it can lead to a sudden increase in blood pressure.

Common Side Effects:

• Peripheral edema (swelling of ankles or feet): This is a very common side effect. Elevating your legs can sometimes help.
• Headache
• Dizziness (especially when standing up quickly)
• Fatigue or tiredness
• Nausea, abdominal pain
• Flushing (warmth, redness, or tingling under the skin)
• Palpitations (awareness of your heartbeat)
• Somnolence (drowsiness)

• Gingival hyperplasia (swelling of the gums, less common)

Serious Side Effects (Seek immediate medical attention if you experience):

• Allergic reactions (Angioedema): Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, which can cause difficulty breathing or swallowing.
• Severe skin reactions (e.g., blistering, peeling, or a painful rash).
• Chest pain that worsens or occurs more frequently, especially when starting the medication.
• Signs of very low blood pressure (e.g., severe dizziness, fainting).
• Signs of heart problems (e.g., shortness of breath, significant swelling in hands/feet, unusual weight gain, very slow heartbeat).
• Signs of liver problems (e.g., yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, persistent nausea or vomiting).

Important Precautions and Warnings:

• Pregnancy: AMLOPRESS-10MG is generally not recommended during pregnancy unless clearly necessary, as there’s a potential risk to the fetus. Discuss with your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant.
• Breastfeeding: Amlodipine may pass into breast milk. Consult your doctor if you are breastfeeding.
• Liver Disease: Use with caution in patients with liver problems, as the medication is metabolized in the liver. Dose adjustments may be needed.

• Grapefruit Juice: Avoid consuming grapefruit juice as it can increase the levels of amlodipine in your body, leading to increased side effects.
• Alcohol: Limit alcohol consumption as it can increase dizziness and drowsiness.
• Driving/Operating Machinery: Amlodipine can cause dizziness or fatigue. Be cautious when driving or operating machinery until you know how the medication affects you.
• Drug Interactions: Inform your doctor about all other medications, supplements, and herbal products you are taking, as amlodipine can interact with various drugs (e.g., certain antibiotics, antifungals, other blood pressure medications, simvastatin).
