Description
VALPROL TAB CR 300MG (Sodium Valproate 300 mg, controlled-release) is an anticonvulsant used to treat epilepsy, bipolar disorder, and prevent migraine headaches. It stabilizes brain electrical activity, reducing seizures in absence, partial, and generalized epilepsy. In bipolar disorder, it controls manic episodes. Taken orally, typically once or twice daily, the controlled-release formula ensures steady drug levels. Common side effects include nausea, drowsiness, and weight gain, while serious risks like liver failure, pancreatitis, or birth defects (if taken during pregnancy) require monitoring. Regular liver function tests are recommended. It is contraindicated in women of childbearing age unless essential, and in patients with liver disease or urea cycle disorders. Consult a doctor for use in pregnancy, breastfeeding, or with kidney issues. Avoid abrupt discontinuation to prevent seizure recurrence or mood destabilization.
