Tretinoin, a derivative of vitamin A, works by boosting skin cell turnover. This action helps clear existing clogged pores (comedones) and prevents new ones from forming. It also thins the outermost layer of the skin. For acute promyelocytic leukemia, it induces cellular differentiation and reduces proliferation.
