TRESIBA 3ML 100U/ML: Long Description and Short Uses
Long Description:
Tresiba (insulin degludec) 3ml 100 U/mL is an ultra-long-acting basal insulin analog used to manage high blood sugar levels in both adults and children (aged 1 year and older) with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes mellitus.
It comes in a pre-filled pen (FlexTouch) containing 300 units of insulin (3ml of 100 units/ml solution). Unlike some other long-acting insulins that last around 24 hours, Tresiba provides a steady and consistent release of insulin for more than 42 hours. This extended duration of action offers significant flexibility in dosing time; while it’s recommended to take it once daily at the same time, if a dose is missed or delayed, it can be taken as soon as remembered, ensuring a minimum of 8 hours between doses.
Tresiba works by mimicking the natural insulin produced by the body. It helps lower blood sugar by facilitating the uptake of glucose from the bloodstream into muscle and fat cells, where it’s used for energy. Additionally, it suppresses the liver’s production of glucose, further contributing to blood sugar control. Its prolonged and stable action helps to minimize fluctuations in blood sugar levels, reducing the risk of both high blood sugar (hyperglycemia) and low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), particularly during the night.
Tresiba can be prescribed alone or in combination with other diabetes medications, including fast-acting insulins. It is administered as a subcutaneous injection into the thigh, upper arm, or abdomen, with injection sites rotated to prevent skin changes like lipodystrophy.
