How SOLBE-S Ointment Works

Clobetasol Propionate is a high-potency corticosteroid that reduces inflammation by:

  • Stabilizing leukocyte lysosomal membranes.
  • Preventing the release of destructive acid hydrolases from leukocytes.
  • Inhibiting macrophage accumulation in inflamed areas.
  • Reducing leukocyte adhesion to capillary endothelium.
  • Reducing capillary wall permeability and edema formation.
  • Decreasing complement components.
  • Antagonizing histamine activity and kinin release.
  • Reducing fibroblast proliferation, collagen deposition, and subsequent scar tissue formation.

Salicylic Acid has a potent keratolytic action (helps shed dead skin cells) and a slight antiseptic effect when applied topically. It works by:

  • Softening and destroying the stratum corneum (the outermost layer of skin) by increasing endogenous hydration.
  • Causing the horny layer of the skin to swell, soften, and then desquamate (peel off).
  • At high concentrations, salicylic acid has a caustic effect.
  • It also possesses weak antifungal and antibacterial activity.
