Uses:
Sizodon (Risperidone) is used to treat a variety of psychiatric and behavioral conditions, including:
- Schizophrenia (in adults and adolescents)
- Bipolar disorder (for manic or mixed episodes)
- Irritability and aggression in autism spectrum disorder (children and adolescents)
- Delusional disorder or other psychotic symptoms
- Sometimes used off-label for Tourette’s syndrome, dementia-related agitation, and OCD
How It Works:
Risperidone blocks dopamine D2 and serotonin 5-HT2A receptors in the brain, helping to balance these neurotransmitters. This action reduces psychotic symptoms like hallucinations, delusions, aggression, and mood swings, and improves thinking and behavior.
Dosage:
- Usual starting dose for adults: 1–2 mg per day, which may be gradually increased
- Maximum dose typically does not exceed 6–8 mg/day
- In children, dosing is lower and based on body weight and condition
- Can be taken once or twice daily, with or without food
Common Side Effects:
- Drowsiness or sedation
- Increased appetite and weight gain

Serious but Rare Side Effects:
