Description
Apetamin Syrup is used for a variety of conditions, including:
- Rash and pruritus (itching) in various conditions.
- Appetite stimulation and anorexia nervosa.
- Management of certain endocrine disorders like Cushing’s and Nelson’s syndrome, acromegaly, and hyperprolactinemia.
- Treatment and prophylaxis of migraine and other vascular headaches.
- Addressing antidepressant-induced anorgasmia.
Dosage Information
Apetamin can be taken with or without food; taking it with meals may help reduce gastrointestinal discomfort.
Adult Dose
- Allergic Conditions:
- Initially: 4 mg three times daily (tid).
- Usual: 12-16 mg daily in 3-4 divided doses.
- Maximum: 32 mg/day.
- Treatment and Prophylaxis of Migraine and Other Vascular Headaches:
- 4 mg, which may be repeated after 30 minutes.
- Do not exceed 8 mg within a 4-6 hour period.
- Maintenance: 4 mg every 4-6 hours.
Child Dose
- Allergic Conditions:
- 2-6 years: 2 mg twice or three times daily. Maximum: 12 mg daily.
- 7-14 years: 4 mg twice or three times daily. Maximum: 16 mg daily.
- Migraine Prophylaxis:
- Under 3 years: Safety and efficacy have not been established.
- Over 3 years and Adolescents: 0.2-0.4 mg/kg/day orally, divided twice daily. Do not exceed 0.5 mg/kg/day.
Renal Dose

Important Considerations
Contraindications
Do not use Apetamin Syrup if you have:
- Narrow-angle glaucoma.
- An acute asthmatic attack.
- Bladder neck obstruction.
- Stenosing peptic ulcer.
- Gastrointestinal tract (GIT) obstruction.
- Are undergoing MAOI (Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitor) therapy.
- Hypersensitivity to Cyproheptadine HCl.
- This medication is contraindicated in neonates and during lactation.
Precautions
Use with caution in:
- The elderly.
- Individuals performing tasks requiring mental alertness.
- Those with symptomatic prostate hypertrophy.
- Epilepsy.
- Alcoholism.
- Pregnancy.
