Tretinoin works by influencing the growth and turnover of skin cells. Specifically, it decreases the cohesiveness of follicular epithelial cells and stimulates their mitotic activity, leading to increased cell turnover and the extrusion of comedones (blackheads and whiteheads). This process helps to unclog pores and prevent the formation of new acne lesions. Additionally, Tretinoin can promote collagen production and improve the overall texture of the skin.
