Petor 40

Petor 40 Tablet (Pantoprazole Sodium Sesquihydrate 40mg) is an acid-reducing medication manufactured by Magnus Pharma Pvt. Ltd. in Nepal. It’s a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that works by blocking the final step of acid secretion in your stomach.

 

Uses

 

Petor 40 is used to treat various conditions related to excess stomach acid, including:

  • Peptic ulcer disease (duodenal and gastric ulcers)
  • H. pylori infection (in conjunction with other medications)
  • Gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD), including erosive esophagitis
  • Zollinger-Ellison syndrome
  • Oesophagitis
  • Acid-related dyspepsia
  • NSAID-associated ulceration
  • Ulcers resistant to H2 receptor antagonists
  • Gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding from stress
  • Prophylaxis for acid aspiration syndrome during anesthesia induction

Description

  • Do not use with rilpivirine, atazanavir, or nelfinavir.
  • Not recommended during lactation.

Precautions:

  • Your doctor should rule out gastric malignancy before starting treatment.
  • Consider zinc supplementation during IV therapy if you are prone to zinc deficiency.
  • Use with caution during pregnancy.

Monitoring Parameters:

  • Your magnesium levels should be monitored before starting and periodically during prolonged use.

Adverse Effects (Side Effects):

Common side effects (1-10%) include:

  • Headache
  • Abdominal pain
  • Diarrhea
  • Constipation

Less common but serious side effects can include:

  • Angioedema
  • Atrophic gastritis
  • Hepatocellular damage leading to hepatic failure
  • Interstitial nephritis
  • Pancreatitis
  • Pancytopenia
  • Rhabdomyolysis
  • Risk of anaphylaxis
  • Stevens-Johnson syndrome
  • Fatal toxic epidermal necrolysis
  • Erythema multiforme

Interactions:

  • Increased risk: Digoxin-induced cardiotoxic effects, hypomagnesemia with diuretics.
  • May increase: INR and prothrombin time with warfarin, serum concentration of methotrexate and saquinavir.
  • Delayed absorption/decreased bioavailability: With sucralfate.
  • Decreased absorption: Ketoconazole, itraconazole.
  • Potentially Fatal: May decrease serum levels and pharmacological effects of rilpivirine, atazanavir, and nelfinavir.
