Persol Gel is a topical medication containing 2.5% Benzoyl Peroxide, manufactured by Wallace Pharmaceuticals Pvt Ltd. It comes in a 20g tube and is available in Nepal.

 

Uses (Indications)

 

Persol Gel is used for:

  • Acne vulgaris
  • Dyeing hair (Note: This is an unusual indication for a topical acne medication and may refer to its bleaching property. Always consult a professional for hair dyeing.)
  • Teeth whitening (Note: This is an unusual indication and likely refers to its oxidative properties. Consult a dentist for teeth whitening.)
  • Decubitus or Stasis ulcers (Note: Use for ulcers should be strictly under medical supervision.)

 

How to Use (Administration & Dosage)

 

For Acne:

  • Adults: After thoroughly washing your skin, apply Persol Gel sparingly to the affected areas 1-2 times daily. You may gradually increase application to three times daily if needed. It’s recommended to start with lower strength preparations of Benzoyl Peroxide if available.
  • As a cleanser: Wash affected areas 1-2 times daily.

 

Important Considerations

 

  • Do Not Use If (Contraindications): Do not use Persol Gel if you have hypersensitivity to Benzoyl Peroxide or any of its ingredients.
  • Precautions:
    • If severe irritation develops, discontinue use. You can restart treatment at a tolerable level once the irritation has cleared.
    • Do not use occlusive dressings (bandages or wraps) over the treated area.
    • This product may cause dermatitis in allergic patients.
    • Apply carefully near the eyes, mouth, neck, other mucous membranes, and other sensitive areas.
    • May bleach fabrics or hair.
  • Pregnancy & Lactation:
    • Lactation: It’s unknown if Benzoyl Peroxide is excreted in breast milk; use with caution.
  • Interactions:
    • PABA (Para-aminobenzoic acid) sunscreens may cause transient discoloration of fabric when used with Benzoyl Peroxide.

  • May bleach fabrics or hair
  • Skin discoloration
  • Skin rash
  • Peeling
  • Transient local edema (swelling)

 

How It Works (Mechanism of Action)

 

Benzoyl Peroxide has a mild keratolytic effect (helps shed dead skin cells) and antimicrobial activity due to its oxidative properties. It is effective against S. epidermidis and P. acnes, which are common bacteria associated with acne
