Nevidine Sol is an antiseptic solution (5% Povidone Iodine) made by National Healthcare Pvt. Ltd., available in Nepal.

It’s used to prevent and treat skin infections like cuts, abrasions, surgical incisions, and ulcers.

How to Use: Apply once or twice daily for treatment (max 14 days) or once/twice weekly for prevention. Always clean and dry the area first. Not for infants under 2 years.

Important: Avoid regular use if you have thyroid disorders, kidney problems (with broken skin), or are on lithium.

Side Effects: Usually mild skin irritation. Applying to large broken areas can lead to serious systemic effects (e.g., metabolic acidosis, kidney issues) due to iodine absorption.

Nevidine Sol is an antiseptic solution containing Povidone Iodine 5%. It’s manufactured by National Healthcare Pvt. Ltd. and is available in Nepal.

 

What is it Used For? (Indications)

 

Nevidine Sol is primarily used to prevent and treat skin infections. This includes:

  • Primary or secondary topical infections
  • Infected surgical incisions
  • Infected decubitus or stasis ulcers
  • Pyodermas (bacterial skin infections)
  • Secondarily infected dermatoses (skin conditions that have become infected)
  • Infected traumatic lesions (injuries)

It’s also effective for preventing infections in cuts, abrasions, and other wounds.

 

How to Use (Dosage & Administration)

 

Always clean and dry the affected area before applying Nevidine Sol. It can be covered with a dressing or bandage after application.

 

Adults:

 

  • For treating existing infections: Apply once or twice daily, or with each dressing change, for a maximum of 14 days.
  • For preventing infections: Apply once or twice a week, as long as needed.

 

Children:

 

  • Not for use in infants under 2 years.

 

Important Considerations

 

 

Contraindications:

 

Do not use Nevidine Sol regularly if you have:

  • Thyroid disorders, especially nodular colloid goiter, endemic goiter, or Hashimoto’s thyroiditis.
  • It’s also contraindicated for infants under 2 years.

 

Precautions:

 

  • Exercise special caution when applying regularly to broken skin in patients with pre-existing kidney problems.
  • Avoid regular use in patients who are currently taking lithium therapy.
  • Use with caution during pregnancy, lactation, and in neonates.

 

Potential Side Effects (Adverse Effects)

 

Most side effects are localized and mild, but systemic effects can occur if applied to large areas of broken skin.

  • Common: Local skin irritation and sensitivity, mild-transient burning, or a sticky sensation.
  • Rare: Irritation or hypersensitivity reactions.
  • Serious (with application to large wounds or severe burns): Systemic effects due to iodine absorption, such as metabolic acidosis, hypernatraemia (high sodium in the blood), and impaired kidney function.
