This tablet contains Levofloxacin, a powerful antibiotic that treats various bacterial infections.

 

What it Treats:

 

  • Respiratory: Pneumonia (including hospital-acquired), acute sinusitis, chronic bronchitis flare-ups. (Note: Often reserved when other options aren’t suitable for sinusitis/bronchitis.)
  • Skin: Uncomplicated and complicated skin and soft tissue infections.
  • Urinary: Uncomplicated and complicated UTIs, kidney infections (pyelonephritis). (Note: Often reserved for uncomplicated UTIs when other options aren’t suitable.)
  • Other: Chronic prostate infections, anthrax (post-exposure), and plague.

How to Take:

 

  • Adults: Doses vary (e.g., 500 mg or 750 mg once daily) depending on the infection.
  • Children: Doses are weight-based for specific severe infections (e.g., anthrax, plague) and respiratory infections.
  • Oral Solution: Take on an empty stomach (1 hour before or 2 hours after meals).
  • Tablets: Can be taken with or without food.
  • Drink plenty of fluids.
  • IV Infusion: Must be given slowly (60-90 minutes), not as a quick injection.
  • Kidney Issues: Dose adjustments are necessary for impaired kidney function.

 

Important Warnings:

What is Levoflox 500 Tablet Used For?

 

Levoflox 500 Tablet contains Levofloxacin, a powerful antibiotic that fights various bacterial infections. It’s prescribed for:

  • Respiratory Infections: Including pneumonia (community-acquired and hospital-acquired), acute bacterial sinusitis, and flare-ups of chronic bronchitis.
    • Note: For sinusitis and chronic bronchitis, your doctor typically reserves this medication for when other options aren’t suitable.
  • Skin & Soft Tissue Infections: Both simple and complex skin infections.
  • Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs): Including uncomplicated and complicated UTIs, and kidney infections (acute pyelonephritis).

How to Take Levoflox 500 Tablet

 

Adult Dosing:

Child Dosing (for specific severe infections like anthrax/plague and some respiratory infections):

  • Doses are based on the child’s weight. For instance, 16 mg/kg/day divided every 12 hours for anthrax prophylaxis (up to 50 kg body weight).

Important Administration Notes:

  • Tablets: You can take Levoflox 500 with or without food.
  • Oral Solution: If you have the oral solution, take it on an empty stomach, either 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals.
  • Always drink plenty of fluids while on this medication.
  • IV Administration: If given intravenously, it must be infused slowly (over 60 to 90 minutes) to avoid a sudden drop in blood pressure. It is never given as a rapid injection.
