Description

Hyoscine Butylbromide works by competitively blocking muscarinic receptors. This action affects both the central nervous system and peripheral body systems. It leads to the relaxation of smooth muscle and reduces gastric and intestinal motility (the movement of food through the digestive tract)

Hysomide Tablet: An Essential Guide

Hysomide Tablet, containing Hyoscine Butylbromide 10mg, is manufactured by Maruti Pharma Pvt. Ltd. It is available in Nepal at a retail price of 14.00 NPR, and also comes in a 20mg tablet strength. This medication is primarily used to relieve spasms and associated pain in the gastrointestinal and genitourinary systems.

Primary Uses:

Hysomide Tablet is prescribed for conditions involving:

  • Gastrointestinal tract spasm
  • Abdominal pain
  • Genitourinary spasm

Dosage Information:

  • Adults (Oral): The recommended dose for gastrointestinal and genitourinary spasms is 20 mg, taken four times daily.
  • Adults (Parenteral – IM/IV): 20 mg can be administered via intramuscular (IM) or intravenous (IV) injection, with a repeat dose possible after 30 minutes if needed.
    • Maximum daily dosage: 100 mg.
  • Children (6-12 years, Oral): The recommended dose for gastrointestinal or genitourinary spasms is 10 mg, three times daily.

Contraindications (When NOT to use Hysomide):

Do not use Hysomide if you have:

  • Narrow-angle glaucoma
  • Acute haemorrhage (severe bleeding)
  • Paralytic ileus (bowel paralysis)
  • Tachycardia (rapid heart rate) due to cardiac insufficiency
  • Myasthenia gravis (a neuromuscular disorder)

Precautions (Use with Caution):

Inform your doctor if you have any of the following conditions, as Hysomide should be used with caution:

  • Hepatic (liver) or renal (kidney) disease
  • Pyloric stenosis (narrowing of the stomach outlet)
  • Urinary retention or prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate)
  • Psychosis or seizure disorders
  • Ulcerative colitis
  • Coronary artery disease, tachyarrhythmias, heart failure, or hypertension (high blood pressure)
  • It should also be used carefully in elderly patients, children, and during pregnancy or lactation.

Drug Interactions:

  • Additive sedative effects may occur when Hysomide is taken with alcohol or other CNS depressants.
  • The effects of Hysomide may be reduced if taken concurrently with acetylcholinesterase inhibitors (such as donepezil, galantamine, rivastigmine, tacrine).
  • Potentially Fatal: The effect of Hyoscine Butylbromide can be potentiated (made stronger) by other anticholinergic drugs and tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs).
