Hopecard-H 5/12.5 is a combination medication used primarily to treat hypertension (high blood pressure). It contains two active ingredients:
- Ramipril (5 mg): This is an Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme (ACE) inhibitor. ACE inhibitors work by blocking the production of a naturally occurring substance in the body called angiotensin II, which causes blood vessels to narrow. By inhibiting this process, Ramipril helps relax and widen blood vessels, allowing blood to flow more easily and reducing the workload on the heart.
- Hydrochlorothiazide (12.5 mg): This is a diuretic, also known as a “water pill.” Hydrochlorothiazide works by increasing the amount of urine passed out from the kidneys. This helps to eliminate excess water and salt from the body, which in turn reduces the volume of blood and thus lowers blood pressure. It also helps in treating edema (swelling) associated with heart, liver, kidney, or lung diseases by effectively reducing excess fluid overload.
The combination of Ramipril and Hydrochlorothiazide in Hopecard-H 5/12.5 provides a synergistic effect, controlling blood pressure more effectively when a single medication is not sufficient.
