Description
Glizid 40 Tab contains gliclazide (40 mg), a sulfonylurea used to manage type 2 diabetes mellitus. It stimulates the pancreas to release insulin, lowering blood sugar levels, and is typically taken orally once or twice daily with meals. Glizid is prescribed for adults whose diabetes isn’t controlled by diet and exercise alone, often alongside metformin. It helps prevent complications like nerve damage or retinopathy. Side effects may include hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), weight gain, or stomach upset, so regular blood sugar monitoring is essential. It’s not suitable for type 1 diabetes or severe kidney/liver disease patients. Avoid alcohol, as it can worsen hypoglycemia. Patients with a history of allergic reactions to sulfonylureas or those preparing for surgery should consult a doctor. Prolonged fasting or skipping meals can increase hypoglycemia risk, so consistent meal timing is crucial. Never stop suddenly without medical advice, as this can lead to uncontrolled sugar levels.
