Description
Foracort 400 Rotacap is a prescription medication used to manage and prevent symptoms of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It is manufactured by Cipla Ltd.
Composition
Each rotacap contains:
- Formoterol (6 mcg): A long-acting bronchodilator that relaxes airway muscles, facilitating easier breathing.
- Budesonide (400 mcg): An inhaled corticosteroid that reduces inflammation in the airways
Uses
Foracort 400 Rotacap is indicated for:
- Asthma: Both treatment and prevention of symptoms.
- Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD): Management of long-term symptoms.
How It Works
The combination of Formoterol and Budesonide works synergistically:
- Formoterol: Relaxes the muscles in the airways, widening them and making breathing easier.
- Budesonide: Suppresses inflammation by inhibiting the release of certain chemical messengers.
Administration
- Do not swallow the rotacaps.
- Use with a Rotahaler device:
- Place the capsule at the base of the Rotahaler.
- Twist the mouthpiece completely until you hear a click.
- Breathe in deeply through the mouthpiece.
- Hold your breath for up to 10 seconds.
- If some powder remains, repeat the process.
Side Effects
Common side effects may include:
- Headache
- Nausea or vomiting
- Stomach discomfort
- Cough
- Upper respiratory tract infection
- Oral thrush (fungal infection)
- Voice changes
- Tremors or palpitations
To minimize the risk of oral infections, rinse your mouth with water after each use.
Precautions
- Not for acute relief: This medication is not intended for sudden asthma attacks. Always keep a rescue inhaler on hand.
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding: Use only if prescribed by a healthcare provider.
- Medical conditions: Inform your doctor if you have liver or kidney disease.
