EMPACT 25 TAB is a medication containing Empagliflozin (25 mg), which belongs to the SGLT2 inhibitor class of drugs. It is primarily used in the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus and, in some cases, for heart failure and kidney protection in diabetic patients.

- Active Ingredient: Empagliflozin (25 mg)
- Drug Class: SGLT2 (Sodium-Glucose Cotransporter-2) Inhibitor
- Mechanism of Action:
- Works by blocking SGLT2 proteins in the kidneys, preventing glucose reabsorption.
- Causes excess glucose to be excreted in urine, lowering blood sugar levels.
- Also promotes mild weight loss and reduces blood pressure.
Uses (Indications):
- Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus – Helps control blood sugar levels.
- Heart Failure (HFrEF) – Reduces hospitalization risk in adults with heart failure (even without diabetes).
- Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) – Slows kidney damage in diabetic patients.
Dosage & Administration:
- Standard dose: 1 tablet (25 mg) once daily in the morning, with or without food.
- Should be taken with adequate water to prevent dehydration.
- Not recommended for Type 1 Diabetes or Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA).
Side Effects:
Common:
- Increased urination, thirst.
- Genital yeast infections (thrush) in men & women.
- Urinary tract infections (UTIs).
Less Common but Serious:
- Low blood pressure (dizziness, fainting).
- Ketoacidosis (rare but dangerous – symptoms: nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, confusion).
- Necrotizing fasciitis (Fournier’s gangrene – rare but severe genital infection).
Precautions & Warnings:
- Avoid if allergic to Empagliflozin.
- Risk of dehydration – Drink enough fluids.
- Monitor for signs of yeast/UTI infections.
- Not for use in severe kidney impairment (eGFR <30).
- May interact with diuretics (increases dehydration risk).
