Description
Drotaverine Hydrochloride exerts its antispasmodic effect by directly acting on smooth muscle cells. Its primary mechanism of action involves the inhibition of phosphodiesterase-IV (PDE4), an enzyme found in smooth muscle. By blocking PDE4, Drotaverine increases the intracellular levels of cyclic AMP (cAMP). This elevated cAMP concentration leads to the relaxation of smooth muscles, thereby alleviating the painful spasms and helping to restore normal function. This direct action provides rapid relief without the significant anticholinergic side effects often associated with other antispasmodics.
Dosage Information:
Important: Always follow your doctor’s prescribed dosage and instructions.
- Adults (Oral): For its antispasmodic effect, the usual adult dose is 1 to 2 tablets (40mg to 80mg), taken 3 times daily.
- Children (Oral):
- Children over 6 years: 1/2 to 1 tablet (20mg-40mg), 1-2 times daily.
- Children 1-6 years: 1/4 to 1/2 tablet (10mg-20mg), 1-2 times daily.
- Administration: Droteva 40 Tablet can be taken with or without food.
