How to Use Dapsone 100 Tablet

 

Dapsone 100 Tablet is taken orally.

Adult Dosage:

  • Dermatitis Herpetiformis: Start with 50 mg orally once daily, and titrate up to 300 mg once daily or higher to achieve the desired effect. The dose should be reduced to the minimum effective dose, within the range of 50-300 mg once daily, as soon as possible.
  • Leprosy: 100 mg orally once daily, in combination with other anti-leprosy drugs.
    • Tuberculoid or Lepromatous Disease: 100 mg orally once daily with rifampin 600 mg orally once daily.

Child Dosage:

  • Oral: 2 mg/kg, with a maximum of 100 mg every 24 hours.
  • Alternatively, 4 mg/kg, with a maximum of 200 mg once weekly.

Important Considerations

 

Contraindications:

  • Less than 1%: Reactional states (abrupt changes in clinical activity during leprosy treatment, classified as reversal of erythema nodosum leprosum reactions), insomnia, headache, exfoliative dermatitis, photosensitivity, nausea, vomiting, anemia, leukopenia, agranulocytosis, hepatitis, cholestatic jaundice, peripheral neuropathy (more common in non-leprosy patients), blurred vision, tinnitus, Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE)-like syndrome.
  • Potentially Fatal: Agranulocytosis (severe reduction in white blood cells), serious cutaneous hypersensitivity reactions, exfoliative dermatitis.
