Clindol 300 Injection is used to treat a variety of bacterial infections, including:
- Dental infections
- Respiratory tract infections

- Endocarditis (including prophylaxis for dental procedures)
- Toxic shock syndrome
- Bacterial vaginosis

Dosage Information
Always follow your doctor’s instructions for dosage.
Adult Dosing:
- Serious Anaerobic Infections:
- By Mouth (PO): 150-300 mg every 6 hours; up to 450 mg every 6 hours for severe infections. Maximum daily dose is 1.8 grams.
- Intravenous (IV): 0.6-2.7 grams per day in divided doses; up to 4.8 grams per day for severe infections.
- Endocarditis Prophylaxis (before dental procedures): 600 mg by mouth, 1 hour before the procedure.
- Toxic Shock Syndrome (with penicillin G or ceftriaxone): 900 mg IV every 8 hours.
- Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (with gentamicin): 900 mg IV every 8 hours.
- Bacterial Vaginosis: 300 mg by mouth every 12 hours for 7 days.
Child Dosing:
- Neonates (under 1 month): 15-20 mg/kg/day divided into 3 to 4 equal doses. Lower doses may be sufficient for small premature infants.
- Children (By Mouth – PO):
- 10-25 mg/kg/day every 8 hours.
- 30-40 mg/kg/day for specific conditions like CA-MRSA, intra-abdominal infections, or acute otitis media (AOM).
- Children (Parenteral – IV/IM): 20-40 mg/kg/day every 8 hours. Higher doses are typically used for more severe infections.
Renal Dosing: Consult your healthcare provider for specific dosage adjustments if you have kidney disease.
Administration
Oral Administration:
- Capsules: Can be taken with or without food. Swallow the capsule whole with a full glass of water while in an upright position.
- Granules: Should be taken with food.
Intravenous (IV) Administration:
- Preparation (Dilution with D5W):
- 300 mg and 600 mg doses: Dilute in 50 mL of D5W.
- 900 mg dose: Dilute in 50-100 mL of D5W.
- 1200 mg dose: Dilute in 100 mL of D5W.
- Intermittent IV Infusion:
- Infuse over 10-60 minutes at a rate not exceeding 30 mg/minute.
- 300 mg: Infuse over 10 minutes.
- 600 mg: Infuse over 20 minutes.
- 900 mg: Infuse over 30 minutes.
- 1200 mg: Infuse over 60 minutes. Do not exceed 1200 mg per hour by IV infusion.
- Continuous IV Infusion: May be given as a continuous infusion after the initial dose has been administered by rapid IV infusion.
Important Considerations
Contraindications: Do not use Clindol 300 Injection if you have a known hypersensitivity (allergy) to clindamycin.
Precautions: Use with caution if you have:
- Kidney or liver disease
- Gastrointestinal disease
- If you are elderly, female, a neonate, or an atopic patient.
Regular monitoring of blood counts, liver function, and kidney function is recommended during treatment.
Pregnancy and Lactation:
- Pregnancy: Discuss with your doctor.
- Lactation: Clindamycin is excreted in breast milk. The manufacturer suggests discontinuing the drug or avoiding nursing. However, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Committee states it is generally compatible with nursing.
Drug Interactions:
Clindol 300 Injection may:
- Enhance the effects of neuromuscular blocking agents (e.g., atracurium).
- Antagonize the effects of parasympathomimetics.
- Competitively inhibit the effects of macrolides, ketolides, streptogramins, linezolid, and chloramphenicol.
- Increase coagulation test results (prothrombin time/INR) and/or bleeding with Vitamin K antagonists (e.g., warfarin).
Adverse Effects (Side Effects):
Common side effects include:
- Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain
- Skin reactions like erythema multiforme, contact dermatitis, exfoliative and vesiculous dermatitis, urticaria
- Eosinophilia
- Local irritation, thrombophlebitis at the injection site
Potentially Serious Side Effects:
- Gasping syndrome (in neonates)
- Pseudomembranous colitis (severe diarrhea due to an overgrowth of harmful bacteria in the colon)
