Description
Candid Lotion is a topical antifungal medication presented in a 30ml bottle. Its active ingredient is Clotrimazole, typically at a concentration of 1% w/v (which translates to 10mg of Clotrimazole per milliliter of lotion). Clotrimazole belongs to a class of antifungal drugs called imidazoles. It works by inhibiting the growth of fungi responsible for various skin infections.
The mechanism of action involves disrupting the synthesis of ergosterol, a crucial component of the fungal cell membrane. By damaging the fungal cell membrane, Clotrimazole causes the leakage of essential intracellular contents, ultimately leading to the death of the fungal organism and resolution of the infection.
Candid Lotion is designed for external use only and should be applied directly to the affected skin area. It is typically a non-aqueous base, allowing for easy and even application. The lotion helps to alleviate symptoms associated with fungal infections, such as itching, redness, burning, and irritation.
While generally safe when used as directed, common side effects can include mild application site irritation, blistering, skin peeling, or swelling. Severe allergic reactions are rare but can occur, manifesting as rash, swelling of the lips, throat or face, difficulty swallowing or breathing, dizziness, and nausea, requiring immediate medical attention.
