Baralgan D Tablet is an antispasmodic medication available in Nepal, manufactured by Aventis Pharma Limited. Its active ingredient is Drotaverine Hydrochloride.
What is it for?
Baralgan D is used to relieve spasms in various parts of the body. This includes:
- Gastrointestinal tract spasms
- Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
- Painful menstrual periods (Dysmenorrhea)
- Biliary colics (pain from gallstones)
- Renal colics (pain from kidney stones)
How to take it:
Adults:
- Oral (Tablets): Take 1 to 2 tablets, three times a day as an antispasmodic.
- Injection (for acute cases): Your doctor might give you 1 to 2 ampoules via intramuscular, subcutaneous, or slow intravenous injection (for severe stone colics), 1 to 3 times daily.
Children (Oral):
- Over 6 years: Give 1/2 to 1 tablet, 1-2 times daily (equivalent to 40 mg 1-2 times daily).
- 1-6 years: Give 1/4 to 1/2 tablet, 1-2 times daily (equivalent to 20 mg 1-2 times daily).
You can take Baralgan D with or without food.
Important Considerations:
Do Not Use If You Have:
- Severe kidney, liver, or heart problems.
- Porphyria (a rare blood disorder).
Use With Caution If You Have:
- Kidney, liver, or heart problems.
- If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Potential Interactions with Other Medications:
Baralgan D might reduce the effect of levodopa (a Parkinson’s medication). Its effects can be enhanced when used with analgesics (painkillers), antimuscarinics, or benzodiazepines.
Possible Side Effects:
You might experience:
- Dizziness (Vertigo)
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Dry mouth
