Atoin Tablet is a topical medication containing Tretinoin at a concentration of 0.025% w/w, manufactured by Asian Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd. It is available in Nepal with a retail price of 120.00 NPR.
What is Atoin Tablet used for?
Atoin Tablet is primarily used to treat:
- Acne
- Mottled hyperpigmentation
- Roughness and fine wrinkling of photodamaged skin
How do you use Atoin Tablet?
Atoin Tablet is for topical/cutaneous use only.
Adult Dose:
- Acne Vulgaris: Apply once daily, usually at bedtime, to the affected area after it has been thoroughly cleansed and dried to remove excess oil. You may start to see improvements after 6-8 weeks of consistent use.
- Mottled hyperpigmentation, roughness, and fine wrinkling of photodamaged skin: Apply a pea-sized amount to your entire face once daily at night. It may take up to 6 months to see a therapeutic response.
Child Dose:
- Acne Vulgaris:
- Under 12 years: The safety and effectiveness of Atoin Tablet have not been established for children under 12 years of age.
- Over 12 years: Apply once daily, usually at bedtime, to the affected area.
Important Considerations
Do not use Atoin Tablet if:
- You are hypersensitive to retinoids.
- You have eczematous, sunburnt, or abraded skin.
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Precautions:
- Avoid using other topical applications at the same time, especially those with keratolytic agents.
- Limit exposure to sunlight, UV light, and extreme weather conditions (e.g., cold).
- Keep the medication away from your eyes, mouth, nose corners, mucous membranes, or open wounds.
- If you experience severe local redness, swelling, blistering, or crusting, reduce the frequency of application or discontinue use.
- Avoid medicated or drying soaps, abrasive soaps and cleansers, frequent washing, and harsh scrubbing.
- Do not use topical preparations with high concentrations of alcohol, menthol, spices, or lime.
Pregnancy and Lactation: Atoin Tablet is contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation.
Potential Interactions with Other Medications
Atoin Tablet can interact with other medications, potentially leading to:
- Enhanced absorption of minoxidil.
- Increased risk of fatal blood clots with antifibrinolytics.
- Increased tretinoin concentrations when used with azole antifungals.
- Enhanced peeling action when used with sulfur, resorcinol, benzoyl peroxide, or salicylic acid.
- Increased photosensitivity with photosensitizing medications such as thiazides, tetracyclines, fluoroquinolones, phenothiazines, and sulfonamides.
- Potentially Fatal: Increased risk of intracranial pressure with tetracyclines.

- Initial worsening of symptoms
- Skin irritation

- Swelling (oedema)

How does Atoin Tablet work?
Tretinoin, a trans-retinoic acid form of Vitamin A, works by:
- Stimulating mitosis and turnover of follicular epithelial cells, which reduces their stickiness. This helps to expel existing blackheads and whiteheads and prevent new ones from forming.
- Thinning the outermost layer of the skin (stratum corneum).
- In acute promyelocytic leukemia, it also induces cellular differentiation and decreases proliferation.
