Atecard-D Tablet combines two types of blood pressure-lowering medications:
- Atenolol: This is a beta-blocker. Atenolol works by blocking the effects of certain natural chemicals in the body, like adrenaline, on the heart and blood vessels. This action slows down the heart rate and makes the heart beat with less force, thereby reducing the strain on the heart and lowering blood pressure.
- Chlorthalidone: This is a diuretic, often referred to as a “water pill.” Chlorthalidone works by increasing the amount of urine produced by the kidneys. This helps the body get rid of excess water and certain electrolytes (like sodium), which reduces the fluid volume in the body and, consequently, lowers blood pressure. Over time, it also helps relax blood vessels, improving blood flow.
By combining these two mechanisms, Atecard-D Tablet effectively controls blood pressure, making it a valuable option for patients whose hypertension is not adequately managed by a single drug.1
