Description
AKT-3 Kit is a combination medication used primarily for the treatment of tuberculosis (TB). It contains three active ingredients:
- Rifampicin: Inhibits bacterial RNA synthesis, effectively killing TB bacteria.
- Isoniazid: Interferes with the synthesis of mycolic acids in bacterial cell walls, leading to bacterial death.
- Ethambutol: Inhibits the formation of the bacterial cell wall, preventing bacterial growth.
Main Use
The primary use of the AKT-3 Kit is to treat active tuberculosis by halting the growth of the bacteria responsible for the infection. It is typically prescribed during the initial phase of TB treatment.
Side Effects
Common side effects may include:
- Nausea and vomiting
- Rash
- Fever
- Dark-colored urine
- Sweating
- Increased sputum production
- Salivation
- Watery eyes
- Increased liver enzymes
- Jaundice
- Visual impairment
- Increased uric acid levels in blood
- Gout
- Peripheral neuropathy (tingling and numbness of feet and hands)
Dosage and Administration
- Take the medication on an empty stomach, ideally one hour before or two hours after meals.
- Do not discontinue the medication even if you feel better; completing the full course is crucial to prevent drug-resistant TB.
- Regular monitoring of liver function and visual acuity is recommended during treatment.
Precautions
- Avoid alcohol consumption during treatment, as it may increase the risk of liver damage.
- Inform your doctor if you have a history of liver disease, optic neuritis, or gout.
- Use with caution in patients with kidney or liver disorders; dose adjustments may be necessary
