Indications:
- Herpes Zoster (Shingles)
- Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) infections (genital and orolabial)
- Varicella (Chickenpox)
- Prophylaxis in immunocompromised patients
Mechanism of Action:
Acyclovir works by converting into an active form inside virus-infected cells, where it inhibits viral DNA polymerase, stopping the replication of the virus and reducing the spread of infection.
Dosage:
- Typically, 800 mg (1 tablet) five times daily for 7–10 days for shingles
- For other infections, dosage and duration depend on condition and physician advice
- Tablet should be dispersed in water before administration or taken whole with water
Side Effects:
